Before the word ‘marathon’ scares you off, there’s everything from a 5km fun run/walk to a 10km run and other distances (even a kids’ run) at the inaugural
Runaway Noosa Marathon on Saturday 26 May. Or come for the ocean swim events on Sunday,
watch the action from the sidelines or join in the fun of Festival Village.
The 42.2km marathon event is the first Noosa Marathon and the course makes the most of our beautiful surrounds, starting just a few metres from Noosa’s Main Beach and Hastings Street’s buzz, and lapping along Noosa’s riverfront, past the restaurants, cafes, bars, boutiques, boats and water activities that line Gympie Tce, giving you plenty of inspiration for what to do after the run.
It’s the perfect combination of a running experience and weekend getaway, with five race distances on a flat, fast and friendly on-road course that starts and finishes in the heart of Noosa Heads: choose between the half-lap 5km fun run, 10km, 21.1km, 31.6km or full four-lap 42.2km marathon.
Set a personal best, run with the family, or grab some friends for the two or four-member Team Relay and share the fun.
There’s even on-course entertainment with music stations and DJs along the way, and live bands at Lions Park including The Koi Boys and Dan Horne Music.
The full course, on wide open roads starts just before the Garth Prowd Bridge in Noosa Heads, with views to Noosa Waters and Noosa River.
Run down Noosa Parade, past parklands and across Quamby Bridge with gorgeous views to the river.
Enjoy the shade along Noosa Parade before the turn on to Gympie Terrace, Noosaville, where the fans will be cheering. From here, it's all about the river views (pictured below) as you fun along the foreshore to Tewantin (past the Big Pelican) and the turnaround at Hilton Esplanade. Then enjoy the views again on the way back.
If you like to run, Noosa in late autumn is a no-brainer – it’s what to do afterwards that will get you thinking. With presentations for the four shorter distances at 10.30am on Saturday morning, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the weekend exploring Noosa.
Competitors can book in for a Noosa massage at the event massage tent, or take longer to relax at one of Noosa's luxurious day spas and massage therapy rooms for the ultimate relaxation – you’ll deserve it!

Warm down with a jog through the Noosa National Park’s gorgeous coastal tracks with views across Laguna Bay to Noosa North Shore, or head to the Noosa hinterland’s cooler country trails.
Hit the beach (the water temp is around 23°), grab a surfboard or stand-up paddle board, go for a jet-ski around the Noosa National Park headland or hire a boat.
Horse ride on open beaches, mountain bike on forest tracks or enjoy the thrills and views of a sunset abseil down Mt Tinbeerwah in Tewantin National Park.
Noosa’s restaurants, cafes and bars will keep you fuelled throughout the weekend – take a walk along Hastings Street and find a seat, head over Noosa Hill to The Junction’s funky eat streets, revisit Noosaville’s river-edge eateries and fish ‘n’ chip shops or grab a basket of goodies from a local deli for a riverside picnic, chill-out in the cool seaside villages of Peregian Beach and Sunshine Beach, or head to the hinterland’s country pubs and welcoming cafes.

Finish your race weekend with an ocean swim in the stunning Laguna Bay off Noosa’s Main Beach with Swim Noosa on Sunday 27 May. There are four distances: 3.8km, 2km, 1km or 500m.
